Rates on 30-year fixed mortgages were below 5% for a third week, hitting a four-month low. Applications to buy a home climbed to the highest level since early January. According to the Commerce Department, sales rose 11% last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 384,000, from an upwardly revised May rate of 346,000. It was the strongest sales pace since November 2008: economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected a pace of 360,000 units. This is the highest rate since 2001, when it was 42%. First-time buyers don't have to sell a home before they buy, which makes the process a lot easier.
